Information technology is on the president-elect’s agenda. How far we’ve come!

When we launched Most Wired OnLine nearly four years ago, our goal was to connect readers with information technology expertise from hospital leaders, national policymakers and other experts. From high-level discussions of IT’s true value and how it can be best used to improve patient care to nitty-gritty pieces on standards and medical record privacy, we’ve published nearly 400 exclusive, insight-oriented opinion columns written for the entire C-suite, not just tech experts.
Indeed, the health care information technology landscape has changed dramatically. And arguably the single most important change is that IT is no longer the sole purview of the technology literati. Information technology is critical throughout the organization and the attendant issues influence every process in a hospital.
Beginning in January, our sister e-newsletter, H&HN Weekly, will feature IT-oriented articles on a monthly basis. These articles will take a more leadership-oriented, strategic view of technology. And this will be the last issue of Most Wired OnLine. The goal is to bring these critical issues to all levels of the organization.
Among other things, we’ll be examining clinical integration, process improvement and IT’s role in quality. Of course, we’ll also keep an eye on how the new national agenda for EHR adoption plays out.
Most Wired OnLine thanks you, our readers, for inviting us into your e-mail inbox each Wednesday and for offering comments and suggestions on our articles. We thank our many contributors over the years, who were always eager to share their knowledge, shortcuts and even their missteps. We have found that the health IT universe is a generous one, and almost anyone who experienced even a small measure of success with an implementation or process improvement was happy to share the secrets that would help others succeed. Thanks also to our advertisers and sponsors for their support of this newsletter and the Most Wired project as a whole.
Happy Holidays, and see you next year in H&HN Weekly.
